Overview

The Department of Civil Engineering offers studies leading to both the Master of Engineering Science (Research) (MEngSc (Res)) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Phd) degrees. Both courses are currently offered at the Clayton Campus.

The MEngSc (Res) degree is nominally a 2 year full-time program in which candidates undertake a research project. It is Faculty policy to initially admit all candidates seeking postgraduate study by research to the MEngSc (Res) degree. Research students may be allowed to transfer to PhD candidature after approximately 12 months.

The actual length of candidature for both Phd and MEngSc (Res) degrees varies depending on the research topic and the progress of each individual candidate. Part-time candidature is also allowed. Nominal length of part-time candidature is twice that of full-time candidature.
