ResearchThe Department actively pursues innovative and significant multi-disciplinary research to address the challenges for engineering in the 21st century, such as renewing and sustaining the aging infrastructures of cities and services, building sustainable cities, developing smart materials and smart buildings, engineering solutions to counter nature disasters, quantity and quality of water, CO2 sequestration, renewable energy, sustainable transport, deep underground mining and petroleum recoveries, climate change effects on environment and infrastructure. The Department aims to deliver scientific break-throughs that will lead to solutions to the above grand challenges for engineering, and to conduct industry relevant research and therefore support sustainability of the Australian industries and communities.
