Honours Calculations
The Degree of Bachelor of Engineering with Honours is awarded for meritorious performance in the course as a whole. No additional courses are required. Honours are determined from a student's Engineering Weighted Average (EWA). Greater weight is given to the units in the later years of the course than to those in the earlier years. The units of the course are weighted as follows:
| Unit |
Unit Weighting |
| Level 1 units | 0.1 |
| Level 2 units | 0.2 |
| Level 3 units | 0.3 |
| Level 4 units | 0.4 |
Though slight variations occur (maximum + 1%) from year to year, the division between honours rankings for the Faculty are approximately as follows:
| Honours Grade |
Boundaries |
| 1st Class Honours | ≥ 75% |
| 2nd Class Honours | ≥ 70% < 75% |
| 3rd Class Honours | ≥ 65% < 70% |
| Pass Grade | ≥ 50% < 65% |
For the final honours calculation, the Faculty's Course Weighted Average formula shall be used, but with an additional 0.9 factor applied to the marks for repeat units. For units taken outside the Engineering faculty, the value of 'n' will be the unit level in the faculty offering the unit.
EWA = S(n) (SCP) (SM)/S(n) (SCP)
where
n = unit level, SCP = unit credit points and SM = unit mark
BE Students
All units completed as part of the BE will be included in the honours calculations.
Double Degree Students
The calculation to determine honours ranking for double degree students is based only on engineering core and engineering elective units as shown in Schedule 1 of the Regulations.
