Professor Sritawat Kitipornchai has had a distinguished career spanning over 30 years as a structural engineering academic. He is world-renowned in the areas of structural stability, thin-walled structures, transmission towers, cold-formed structures, composite structures, smart materials, non-linear analysis and non-destructive testing techniques

Professor Kitipornchai obtained his BE in Civil Engineering with first class honours from Monash University in 1968. He obtained his PhD titled "Stability of Steel Structures" in 1973 from the University of Sydney, Australia. He joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland in 1976 and was appointment Professor of Civil Engineering in 1993. From 2000 to 2003 he was on leave from the University of Queensland and held the Chair Professorship in the Department of Building and Construction at the City University of Hong Kong, where he was appointed the Head of the Department in August 2005. Professor Kitipornchai was awarded Professor Emeritus in 2004 by the University of Queensland.

Professor Kitipornchai has been actively involved in projects, too numerous to mention here. He is the author of 7 books, 9 book chapters, 250 journal papers and 69 refereed conference papers (including 5 keynote addresses). Professor Kitipornchai is also a holder of two patents.
