Research Topic

Compaction charactersitics of soil

Soil compaction is a widely used application in geo-engineering which is important for the construction of roads, dams, landfills, airfields, foundations, hydraulic barriers, and ground improvements. Proper compaction of materials ensures the durability and stability of a construction. Proctor`s compaction test which is developed in 1933 is still used worldwide to find optimum water content (OWC) for maximizing the dry density. However, OWC depend on energy input and soil type. Current problem is the lack of theoretical explanation to determine laboratory compaction behavior and its relation to the field compaction. The aim of the research is to develop a theoretical model to predict compaction characteristics of materials.
